All modern vehicles are equipped with an onboard computer diagnostic system that constantly monitors the vehicle’s major operating systems. This diagnostic system communicates with the engine and transmission and adjusts performance according to set manufacturer parameters. When any of these set parameters are found outside of the acceptable range, the check engine light becomes lit.
